First Sail of the Sailing Season
Rye Harbour Sailability (RHS) held their first sailability sailing event on Wednesday 20th April at Rye Harbour.
At the beginning of April volunteers had turned out in the cold for three days training which involved taking the boats out of storage, checking the rigging and getting out on the water as well as some theory, (which gave everyone the opportunity to warm up with hot drinks and of course cake!).
However, on Wednesday the weather was a little kinder with a bright sky, although there was a fresh north easterly breeze giving a chill to the air. The day went well with volunteers and sailors enjoying their time on the water. A huge thank you to all the volunteers and everyone who helped to make the day so successful. When the tide allows, sometimes twice a month, we sail from April to October in two adapted dinghies with a safety boat at hand under the watchful eye of a RYA (Royal Yachting Association) trained Senior Instructor. Refreshments and food are available to buy at each event.
Our charity is run by volunteers. Please do get in touch if you feel you can spare some of your time to help, either on the water, or on shore. It’s not all about sailing! The next sail is on Wednesday 18th May.
